The new facility consists of the main unit to hydrocrack sludge, with an annual capacity of 2.5 million tons. The H-Oil unit is a Resid hydrocracker (RHC) designed to process 46 000 b/d of vacuum residue from Urals crude. The new processing complex will raise the efficiency of refining through increased production of light fuels which have high added value. The refining depth will reach 90 percent.
The energy efficiency will also grow, while lower emissions of greenhouse gases will produce a significant positive environmental impact. The RHC will turnout high-quality petroleum products (fuel gas, gasoline, diesel fuel and vacuum gasoil), all compliant with the European Union’s most stringent requirements.
The Axens design allowed for a staged investment whereby a new VDU and VGO hydrocracking unit would be integrated and added to this existing unit at a later time. In 2016, the unit passed all performance objectives thereby validating the technology advances incorporated into the design. Achieving high conversion on this difficult crude was a major achievement while also attaining high on-stream time with over 96% availability.
