Roelof Ten Hooven - Duiker Combustion Engineers
Sulfur recovery units utilizing the modified Claus process, have been applied in our industry for decades. After all this time, they are still a key component of the technology we utilize in our drive for cleaner emissions from refineries and gas plants. Once poorly understood, we have now gained a better understanding of the mechanisms at work in an SRU.
This presentation is focused on the thermal reactor. What are its main purposes? What chemical reactions govern its performance? And why is the thermal reactor burner often referred to as the ‘heart of the SRU’? Based on insights in the chemistry, key design considerations will be presented and the importance of high-intensity mixing will become clear.
