PBF Chalmette Refinery is restarting a Coker that has been idle for 9 years in 4th quarter 2019 ahead of the new IMO regulations. This presentation will discuss the process for the equipment refurbishment evaluation and three major projects that are being implemented. Two of the major projects are safety enhancements which are Delta Valve Unheading systems and coke drum switch valves interlock system. The unit had a Hahn and Clay bottom unheading system and manual top unheading. The coke drum switch valves were all manually operated in a very congested area. The third project is a full electrical and instrument upgrade to bring the unit up to current refinery infrastructure standards.
