The Main Fractionator is one of the key towers in the FCCU unit and its reliable operation ensures the profitability of the refinery. This column can become the source of a major bottleneck in the FCCU unit directly affecting the profitability of a refinery. This paper will discuss in detail the debottlenecking of a FCCU main column at an Indian refinery that was initially commissioned in 1984 and has been revamped three times since then. Plant feedback data will also be discussed in detail.
