Colombia currently has two large refineries belonging to the Colombian Petroleum Company (Ecopetrol), one located in the city of Barrancabermeja and the other located in the city of Cartagena. The start of the Cartagena Refinery occurred in the year 1956, passing through crude distillation, visbreaking and catalytic cracking units to currently have the most current refining processes. In the country there is only one Delayed Coke Unit located in the Cartagena Refinery, which started operations from February 2016 and with an installed capacity of 40 kbpd. Since the beginning of this challenging unit, all the team belonging to the operation has managed to face and overcome many problems in a creative way and leaving great lessons learned. In the following presentation we want to show three interesting lessons learned from events that occurred during these almost 3 years of operation. The three events are as follows, the first was to maintain the operation with a fall of trays in the fractionating tower, the second event was to recover the unit, without opening the fractionator after a foamover occurred in September of 2017 and the third event was to recover the operability of the furnace before a plugging of a step by sudden coking.

Spanish: Colombia cuenta actualmente con dos grandes refinerías pertenecientes a la Empresa Colombiana de petróleos (Ecopetrol), una ubicada en la ciudad de Barrancabermeja y la otra ubicada en la ciudad de Cartagena. El arranque de la Refinería de Cartagena se dio en el año de 1956 pasando por unidades de destilación de crudos, viscorreducción y craqueo catalítico a tener en la actualidad los más actuales procesos de refinación. En el país solo existe una Unidad de coquización Retardada ubicada en la Refinería de Cartagena, la cual inició operaciones desde Febrero del año 2016 y con una capacidad instalada de 40 kbpd. Desde el arranque de esta retadora unidad, todo el equipo perteneciente a la operación ha logrado enfrentar y superar muchos problemas de forma creativa y dejando grandes lecciones aprendidas. En la siguiente presentación queremos mostrar tres interesantes lecciones aprendidas de eventos ocurridos durante estos casi 3 años de operación. Los tres eventos son los siguientes, el primero fue mantener la operación con una caída de platos en la torre fraccionadora, el segundo evento fue el recuperar la unidad, sin abrir la fraccionadora luego de un foamover ocurrido en septiembre del año 2017 y el tercer evento fue recuperar la operatividad del horno ante un taponamiento de un paso por coquización súbita.
