An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. These wise words should be at the forefront of one’s mind when sourcing a high-temperature gas-to-gas heat exchanger. Too often, the common failure modes are not addressed until they occur in the field, at which point, they can be very expensive to remedy. This situation can easily be avoided if these details are addressed during the design phase. A highly engineered design with attention to detail will provide significant savings to its operator with reduced downtime and a 2-3x longer operating life.
In our presentation, we will discuss the most common failure modes of cold-end corrosion and stress failures, and touch on reduction of pressure drop. We will cover both the failure mechanisms and the technology used to evaluate and avoid the conditions that lead to these failures.
