While operating the Delayed Coker Unit at turndown rates, it was noticed that propylene producedin DCU was lost with fuel gas when refinery off spec LPG is processed in Absorber Stripper Feed Drum (ASFD). The issue is related to the equilibrium in the drum. When off spec LPG is processed, the equilibrium will shift so that propylene leaves with the off gas stream leaving the drum instead of the liquid product, where it should be. The drum was simulated at different cases. We determined that higher pressure and lower temperatures at the ASFD increases the recovery and mole fraction of propylene in the liquid product of the drum and eventually with Coker LPG.
