The FCC spent catalyst stripping system plays a critical role in the overall performance of the unit. Hydrocarbon vapors entrained with spent catalyst represent a loss of valuable product, resulting in increased delta coke, increased regenerator temperature, and lower conversion.
This presentation outlines the development history and key design considerations when evaluating spent catalyst stripper technology. These include the importance of mass transfer, available contact surface area, uniformity of flows, catalyst and steam mixing, and optimal catalyst fluidization. Commercial benefits and key performance indicators will be presented from Lummus Technology ModGrid™ advanced stripper internal applications to demonstrate typical benefits that can be expected from stripper technology upgrades. Payout periods are typically less than 6 months.
