Suncor’s Upgrading Cokers utilize electric motor actuated valves to operate the drum valves throughout the various coking cycles. To improve safety when operating these coker valves, PLC-based control logic was installed to provide an interlock. This system has significantly reduced incident with valve misoperation & misalignment.
