India’s demand for Imported Fossil Fuels Continues to Rise

In 2013, India was the fourth-largest consumer and net importer of crude oil and petroleum products after the United States, China, and Japan.  The country’s energy demand continues to climb as the world’s second largest population continues to modernize and flex its purchasing power.  Next oil import dependency rose to an estimated 71%.  The Middle East, Venezuela, and Africa are major sources of crude oil supply to India.
