Thanks Evan for your perspective. We should conduct a study of extensive repair vs replace the drum every so often. The labour cost here in Fort Mcmurray is so high and the production impact is high for upgraders too. It will be interesting to know what the study will tell us.
Hi there,
To know the heating value of a fuel gas online, a GC is not required. You may use an online density analyzer to measure the fuel gas density and then correlate it to the gas heating value.
Hopefully this helps.
In order to help you, please clarify the following:
1. Is your heater efficiency low due to high O2, and the reason for unable to run at lower O2 is FG variability of the FG heating value?
You may install a fuel gas density analyzer at the fuel gas main header. Using that as a feed back to blend fuel gases.
One way you can field test your decay curve is that installing two digital pressure gauges at the top of the coke drum and at the far end of the overhead vapour line: by measuring the dP overtime, you can calculate the amount of vapour flow comparing with the normal vapour flow.
