Fire Is Out at Exxon Refinery, Torrance Police Say (Update1)
    2008-04-04 13:02 (New York)

By Barbara Powell and Robert Tuttle
April 4 (Bloomberg) — A fire at Exxon Mobil Corp.’s
refinery in Torrance, California, has been extinguished
    , local
    police said.
The fire started about 8:30 a.m. local time and was put out
by about 9 a.m., Lt. Lloyd Degonia, a spokesman for the Torrance
police department, said in a telephone interview. The blaze
involved gasoline or kerosene and happened in a platform tower
which was shut, Degonia said. The rest of the refinery is still
    operating, he said.
“They are currently pumping two of the” hydrotreaters,
Exxon reported to state regulators. One worker suffered a
    “minor injury”
and was treated at the scene and released,
Exxon said. The report termed the blaze an “insulation fire.”
The refinery can process 155,800 barrels of crude oil a
day, according to the Energy Department.
