CHALMETTE, La. (AP) – State Police say a hydrogen sulfide gas leak at Chalmette Refining LLC’s Chalmette plant has been contained, but not completely sealed.
Trooper Melissa Matey said Friday that workers are waiting for a part needed to finish closing the leak. She says the leak is being monitored and has not affected the offsite air.
Gregory Starkey, a contract worker at the refinery, died while working on the leak. Matey says the cause of his death Tuesday night has not been determined.
Results of an autopsy were expected Friday. The leak began late Monday.
