Fire at Valeros Corpus Christi plant forces workers to shut down unit
San Antonio Business Journal – by Catherine Dominguez
Valero Energy Corp. has taken its heavy oil cracking unit offline at its Corpus Christi West Plant after the refinery suffered a small fire. Company spokesman Bill Day says the small fire was extinguished quickly.
The repairs, Day adds, will take about seven to 10 days. The company expects to lose 80,000 barrels per day of gasoline production and 7,500 barrels per day of distillates.
Commissioned in 1983, the Corpus Christi West transforms lower cost feedstocks into high-quality, premium refined products. Combined with the Corpus Christi East Plant, the two plants have a refining capacity of about 340,000 barrels per day.
San Antonio-based Valero (NYSE: VLO) owns and operates 16 refineries in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean.
