May 2 (Bloomberg) — Valero Energy Corp., the largest U.S.
refiner, plans to shut a 40,000 barrel-a-day crude unit today at
its Corpus Christi, Texas, refinery.
The maintenance will also include the shutdown of a vacuum
unit and will last 14 days, Bill Day, a company spokesman, said
in a telephone interview. The crude unit is located in a section
of the plant that “mostly” produces residual fuel and
partially processed petroleum feedstocks.
The maintenance may cause flaring at the plant, according
to a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
The refinery can process about 340,000 barrels a day, according
to company data.
