Refinery Status: Flint Hills Shuts Gasoline Unit

Flint Hills Resources Friday will shut FCCU No. 2 and Sulfur Recovery Unit No. 1 in the East Plant section of its Corpus Christ, Texas, refinery for maintenance that is expected to conclude on September 24. The start and end dates of the work are estimates only.
ConocoPhillips Thursday filed a planned flaring event notification for emissions that will exceed allowable limits at its refinery in Wilmington, Calif., near Los Angeles. The 20-day event, which will start tomorrow, Sept. 10, is not due to equipment failure, a filing to the South Coast Air Quality Management District said.
Shell Oil (RDSB, RDSA) Products US Thursday reported the shutdown of a wet gas compressor at its Martinez, California, oil refinery due to mechanical failure, a filing to California state environmental regulators said.
Murphy Oil Corp. said Thursday that crude oil throughput rates at its oil refinery in Meraux, La., have been reduced to about 90,000 barrels a day from its boiler plate capacity of 125,000 barrels a day, since late Wednesday when a leak was discovered at the plant’s key gasoline-making unit. The 35,000-barrels-a-day FCCU will resume normal operations by Friday evening, the company said.
Valero Energy said Thursday that a diesel hydrotreater and a crude distillation unit at its Port Arthur, Texas refinery were in circulation mode, and that two sulfur recovery units were operating, after going off line the day before owing to a brief power failure.
BP PLC said Wednesday that more planned flaring would take place at its Carson, California, refinery starting Sunday, September 12 and ending on Friday, October 1. The flaring is not associated with equipment breakdown, a filing to state environmental regulators said.

ExxonMobil Corp. said Monday that its joint-venture refinery in Chalmette, La., was operating and that customers’ needs were being met following an early morning internal power failure. The outage resulted in a release of spent catalyst and the shut down of several unspecified process units, according to a Saint Bernard Parish fire chief. The company did not supply details on how the failure affected operations at the plant, co-owned by Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A.
Imperial Oil began the sequential restart of its 89,000-barrels-a-day refinery in Nova Scotia late Saturday in the wake of Tropical Storm Earl. The plant was shut, and all non-essential personnel were released Friday as a precautionary measure ahead of the storm.
