Chevron Says El Segundo Refinery in Shut Down Phase (Update1)
By Christian Schmollinger
Oct. 27, 2009 (Bloomberg) — Chevron Corp. said it released sulfur dioxide at its El Segundo refinery in California during a shut down phase, according to a filing with the state Office of Emergency Services Web site.
The filing did not specify the units being closed at the plant, only noting that the emissions release began at 10:49 p.m. local time yesterday.
Chevron told the South Coast Air Quality Management District on Oct. 25 that it would be releasing emissions from the refinery form Oct. 26 to Oct. 29, without giving a reason.
The refinery, the second-largest in the state, can process 260,000 barrels of crude a day, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
