Sinopec Guangzhou Petchem defers turnaround plan by two months to Feb’11
Oct 20, 2010 15:02 PM
C1 Energy (Shanghai) – Oct 20, 2010 —Sinopec Guangzhou Petrochemical put off maintenance plan for some units from early December 2010 to February 2011 in a bid to ensure product supplies at the end of this year, according to a refinery source.
The month-long turnaround would involve in 5.2-mil-mt/yr crude distillate unit, 1.5-mil-mt/yr fluid catalytic cracker, 1.8-mil-mt/yr hydro-refining unit and 1-mil-mt/yr delayed coker, the source revealed.
Guangzhou Petrochemical, located in Guangzhou City in South China’s Guangdong Province, has a topping capacity of 15.7-mil mt per year. It refines only foreign crude, most of which is from the Middle East. It is capable of producing 220,000mt of ethylene annually. -

Update on Sinopec Petchem manintance schedule which has been shifted to Feb-Mar 2011 (some time shift was avoid issues with Asian 2010 Games). Some maintenance might be tied to 300MBD expansion for JV with Kuwait – now China’s 7th largest crude supplier. Sinopec Guangzhou refines only foreign crude most from Mid East/Kuwait as article mentions & processed 1 million mt of October 2010 shipment.
Sinopec Guangzhou upgraded its coker in 2005 from 1 million tpy to 1.2 million tpy (coker charge) and joined several other refineries that ceased making +2.0 mm mtpy LS Petcoke and beging producing HS Fuel coke with Guangzhou ~300 kmtpy of 5.0% Sulfur fuel coke.
It is my understanding that the Sinopec Guangzhou Petrochemical JV addition will also expand coker to produce total of 800 kmtpy of fuel coke and is on the Zhenhai Engineering’s Project list (who performed the coker expansion 2005 & ZRCC also worked on Wuhan coker addition that started up this year).
