Workers hurt when train & bus collide at Shell refinery
KETK 56 STAFF
DEER PARK, Texas (AP) – As many as 32 workers required medical attention today when a train hit the rear of a bus at a Shell Oil refinery in Deer Park.
Officials say the injured workers were all conscious and taken to hospitals for treatment or further evaluation. The injuries ranged from bumps and bruises to a possible hip dislocation.
Shell spokeswoman Emily Oberton says there is a stop sign at the crossing, but no automatic barriers or other warnings. The crash involved a Port Terminal Rail Authority train and a bus transporting workers from parking areas.
No hazardous materials were released. The bus is similar to what schools use to transport students.
