Temporary WA refinery shutdown after power outage
A spokesman says the Shell Puget Sound Refinery at Anacortes, Wash., has shut down temporarily after a power outage caused some disruptions.
01/06/11 AP / ANACORTES, Wash. A spokesman says the Shell Puget Sound Refinery at Anacortes, Wash., has shut down temporarily after a power outage caused some disruptions.
Spokesman Jaunty Rutter said part of the refinery lost power Thursday afternoon, causing backup systems to kick in and creating large flames and smoke out of three flares.
No one was injured but nonessential workers were evacuated during the outage.
Rutter says the safety systems are working properly.
He tells the Skagit Valley Herald it’s too early to tell what caused the power outage. He adds the refinery will probably remain shut down for another day while inspectors check for damage.
