Can anyone explain to me what are shield tubes and the functions? I heard that salt can deposits easily on the upper radiant and the shield tubes. What would be the maximum sodium content in the coker feed to prevent from salting the tubes?

shield tubes are part of convection section, which shield the remaining convection tubes from direct radiation. Normally these are bare tubes.
