On-Line Coffeyville Journal / COFFEYVILLE, Kan. — Reports received by The Coffeyville Journal indicate the possible death of a second individual at Coffeyville Resources. The Coffeyville Police Department confirmed that after 2 p.m. Saturday Emergency Medical Services was dispatched to Coffeyville Resources.
A witness, who wished to be unnamed for fear of repercussion, stated two men were on a scaffold, 20 feet in the air. They were conducting pressure tests on a newly constructed tower.
A sudden gust, from what the source described as possibly a blown valve, knocked the man off the scaffold and he apparently fell to his death. However neither company or emergency officials would confirm the fatality.
Preliminary information indicates the man was an employee for Global, a contractor working on the turnaround efforts at Coffeyville Resources.
This follows the death of another man, Donald W. Price Jr., an employee of Deep South Crane and Rigging. Price died after sustaining injuries Feb. 2 while moving counter weights with a crane.
As the 6 p.m. shift began at Coffeyville Resources, a safety meeting was called where the employees were apprised of the incident, the source said, and it was estimated around half of the Global employees left work after the meeting.
