Reliance Jamnagar Accident Kills Two; Refinery Still Operating
By Gaurav Singh Jan. 7, 2009 (Bloomberg) — Two workers were killed in a construction accident at Reliance Industries Ltd.’s Jamnagar refinery in the western Indian state of Gujarat.
“There was an accident at the construction area of the new refinery,” Reliance spokesman Paresh Chaudhry said by phone from Mumbai. “All operations at both the refineries are continuing as normal. There was no fire and there was no blast.”
Reliance has an export-oriented 580,000-barrel-a-day refinery at Jamnagar adjacent to the company’s 660,000-barrel-a-day plant, which together constitute the world’s largest refining complex.
Earlier today, Press Trust of India reported that there was an explosion in a hydrogen plant at the refinery site.
