Venezuela refinery blaze injures 7; fire under control, oil production unaffected
CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Authorities say an oil refinery fire in western Venezuela has injured seven people before being brought under control. Venezuela’s state-run news agency says the fire broke out near storage tanks at the Cardon refinery in Falcon state late Sunday.
ABN reports the blaze did not affect oil production or exports. It said Monday that four firefighters and three refinery workers were injured. Authorities are investigating.
The Cardon refinery produces about 300,000 barrels of oil a day. It is part of the Paraguana refining complex, which has a daily output of 940,000 barrels.
Venezuela is a major supplier of crude to the United States.
