The NCRA Board of Directors have decided to put on hold for now a new coker that was planned for the McPherson, Kansas Refinery. The current world economic situation was cited as the reason for not going forward at this time. The new coker was to be the centerpiece of a heavy crude expansion project. Other projects at the refinery including another hydrogen unit as well as two new flares, a new waste water treatment facility and a benzene reduction unit were given the green light and will proceed. E and P work on the coker project will be suspended for the time being but site preparation will continue.
NCRA is owned by three regional farm cooperatives and operates a 85000 barrel per day refinery in McPherson, Kansas. Majority owner Cenex Harvest States also owns a 65000 barrel per day refinery in Laurel, Montana
