Marathon Kentucky Refinery Unit Restarting, Genscape Says
2008-04-15 10:45 (New York) By Robert Tuttle
April 15, 2008 (Bloomberg) — Marathon Oil Corp., the largest
refiner in the Midwest, “seems to be” starting a fluid
catalytic cracker at its Catlettsburg, Kentucky, refinery after
a fire last week, according to Genscape Inc., which monitors
power flows on transmission lines.
“The monitors are detecting a return to the pre-accident
level,” Genscape said in a statement released by PRNewswire.
“This is consistent with an attempt to restart the unit.”
Genscape uses technology to sense power flow on
transmission lines in the U.S. and Europe and recently started
monitoring refineries, the company said in the release.
A Genscape spokesman wasn’t immediately available for
further comment on the refinery’s power use.
Marathon spokeswoman Linda Casey declined to comment on
whether the refinery was starting the unit.
