Three workers injured in fire incident in Kuwait refinery – KNPC
KUWAIT, June 29, 2008 (KUNA) — Three workers sustained injuries in a “limited fire” in Abdullah Port Refinery in southern Kuwait on Sunday, Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) said.
KNCP Public Relations and Media acting director Ahmad Al-Muzaiel told KUNA two of the injured were treated on the spot while the third was transferred to hospital because he suffered second-degree burns, but his condition was “stable and not life threatening.” Al-Muzaiel did not name the workers nor their natinoalities.
He said the fire broke out at 5:30 pm while maintenance was carried out in Unit 19 in Abdullah Port refinery.
The fire did not affect operations nor exports, he affirmed.
Al-Muzaiel said the fire was caused by a gas leak. The fire was quickly contained and the unit has been already stopped.
A team was formed to investigate the leak and its causes, he said.
