Essar plans petchem project in Gujarat

NEW DELHI (Reuters) – India’s Essar Group is planning an integrated petrochemical complex with its refinery expansion plans at Vadinar in Gujarat, a top company official said on Monday.
“We are planning an integrated petrochemical complex with our refinery expansion plans, which will have a big naphtha and off-gas cracker,” S. Stalin, CEO, syngas business at Essar Group, told reporters at a gas conference.
Asked about the capacity of the new unit he said: “We are at advanced stages of finalising the proposal. In two to three months, we will finalise the capacity and select the technology for the proposed plan…the size will depend on the kind of crude we process and the products we are getting.”
Stalin did not give a timeframe for the petrochemical project.
Essar runs a 210,000 barrel per day (bpd) refinery in Gujarat and has plans to raise the capacity to 680,000 bpd in 2010./*YAHOO.EU.Messenger = new Messenger();

Here is update news release on Essar Vadinar Refinery expansion from 200 MBD to 680 MBD by 2010, this project is still very much in the planning stage.
Earlier news items indicate this will be a 2-3 stage process each adding ~240 MBD crude capacity and first two stages will each add a delayed coking unit.
