How long and with which amounts of steam do you inert your coke drums to the atmosphere? Can you measure the concentration of oxygen in you coke drums (online measurement)? Which is the limit of oxygen in a coke drum, which you have go below, before you can start to heat up your coke drum with hydrocarbon vapors? What is the “best practice” ?

You need to perform at least three volume displacements of the coke drum with steam to be in a safe range.  Four or five displacements is best.

Typically is used between 15 to 20 minutes with a flow of steam between 15000 -20000  lb/f3 (volumes of drums between 30000 to 35000 f3)
