Oct. 15, 2008 (Bloomberg) — Hovensa LLC, operator of a 495,000
barrel-a-day refinery in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, is
closing its processing units as Hurricane Omar is forecast to hit
the islands late today.
“Hovensa LLC is in the process of shutting down essentially
all its processing and auxiliary equipment at the St. Croix
refinery except those necessary to maintain supply of power to
the complex,” Alex Moorhead, a spokesman for the joint venture
that runs the refinery, said by telephone.
Hovensa is a joint venture of New York-based Hess Corp. and
Petroleos de Venezuela SA.
