GE and Bechtel have signed an agreement with TransCanada to build a polygeneration facility in Belle Plaine, Saskatchewan. The facility will gasify petroleum coke to generate 300 MW of electricity and will produce hydrogen, nitrogen, and CO2 for enhanced oil recovery. Here is a TransCanada Upgrader Update – TransCanada signed an agreement to study Petcoke Polygen for FEED in 2008 with GE (bought old Texaco Gasification technology) and Bechtel (past partner with COP on coking technology).  The Gasifier will use petcoke to produce several products as indicated in article = 300 MW electricity, Steam, Hydrogen, Nitrogen & CO2 for Fertilizer & EOR applications.  Project slated to come online in 2013 just after upgrade coker is operational. News item & PDF are posted on Gasification Technology Council website – see link at end condensed version news item.
