WHITING | A BP Whiting refinery contractor was seriously injured when hot vapor sprayed out of a crude processing unit at the facility Saturday, the company confirmed Wednesday.
The worker experienced significant burns and was transported to the burn treatment center at University of Chicago Medical Center, refinery spokesman Brad Etlin said. The man, who is not being identified, worked for BMW Constructors Inc., of Munster, as a pipefitter.
“We are thankful that the individual is in recovery, and our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family for a full recovery,” Etlin said. “BP and Whiting refinery take accidents very seriously, and we are in the process of conducting a full and comprehensive investigation.”
