Officials at Flint Hills Refinery say a fire broke out there Sunday, but did NOT interrupt production and refining operations. Jeff Cook is director of external affairs for the North Pole refinery. He says the fire started in a service building near the processing unit and was put out by a sprinkler system. Cook says there were no injuries in the incident. He says the cause of the fire was still being investigated Sunday afternoon.
The Flint Hills Refinery is a subsidiary of Koch Industries, Incorporated. It has a crude oil processing capacity of about 220,000 barrels per day and produces a variety of petroleum products including gasoline, jet fuel, heating oil and diesel.
