Does anyone have information on Nomex versus Fire Retardant Cotton providing protection during steam or hot water exposures? Our operators feel the cotton material would provide greater protection during the possibility of these type of incidents.
We at ExxonMobil require neoprene suits if there is a risk of hot water exposure. It is uncomfortable in the summer, but it protects against burns for the short time that the deheading work must be done.
For the best protection, use FRC Sickers. We use Nomex coveralls along with FRC Slickers over that for unheading the bottom head. It is a little hot for the unheading process but it really doesn’t take that long.
