Eni Taranto Refinery Suffers Hydrocracker Startup Difficulties
By Nidaa Bakhsh
April 1, 2010 (Bloomberg) — Eni SpA, Italys biggest oil company, said it plans to restart a hydrocracking unit at its Taranto oil refinery next week.
The company has encountered startup difficulties with the new unit at the plant, according to an e-mailed statement to Bloomberg News in response to questions. The unit restart will begin just after April 4, according to the statement.
Eni said malfunctions are normal when new units begin operations. A hydrocracking unit takes heavier streams of oil and breaks them down into more valuable products such as jet fuel and diesel.
