Firefighters are battling an extra-alarm fire at an oil refinery in southwest suburban Lemont Sunday morning.
The fire was reported on a conveyor belt at the Seneca Petroleum Company, 12460 New Ave., about 8:45 a.m., according to a Lemont Fire Protection District firefighter.
The firefighter said “multiple” suburban fire departments were assisting in battling the blaze and the fire was not extinguished as of 10:15 a.m.
The fire was reported in a 200-foot section of a much larger conveyor belt used to move products from one facility to another, according to unconfirmed fire dispatch reports.
A second-alarm, requesting additional help, was initiated about 9:45 a.m.  There were no immediate reports of injuries.
