ConocoPhillips Delays $350 Million Coker Addition at Ferndale Refinery in Washington, an Industrial Info News Alert Thursday September 25, 7:30 am ET
SUGAR LAND, TX–(MARKET WIRE)–Sep 25, 2008 — ConocoPhillips (Houston, Texas) has delayed a proposed $350 million, 25,000-barrel-per-day delayed coker unit addition at a refinery in Ferndale, Washington. The coker will have two coke drums and utilize ConocoPhillips’ proprietary ThruPlus delayed coking technology. Construction is expected to commence in early 2012.
Here is news update from Info Research on COP Ferndale coker project – only new item is EPC construction target date of 2012. Both Tesoro & COP delayed thier coker projects in 2006 due to 2X cost & other strategic reasons; while fast forwarding other Coking projects like Tesoro Golden Eagle Coker & COP WRN cokers.
The high USWC Asphalt price rise to $650/t would have cut into coker margins but not enough to stop heavy crude margins = Tesoro putting in changes to run more Canadian OS Bitumen crudes & reducing amount asphalt production (see news post on item coking.com).
