Hi everyone,
Recently we’ve had some incidents of loose coke falling from our coke drums and hitting the operator at the coke drum bottom-head while cleaning. I personally think it’s unsafe for anyone to spend extended length of time around the bottom-head with a scraper or pressure washer even after the bottom-head has been polished/ cleaned using the cutting bit. There’s no sure way to tell if coke is still present in the drum and that safety concern of coke falling down on someone below and possibly injuring them bothers me.
I’d like to know what measure or procedure is used at other DCUs when cleaning the coke drum bottom-head after the drum has been cut.
