NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- (BP) reported Thursday that flaring is expected at its Carson, Calif., oil refinery starting Nov. 10 until about Nov. 23, a filing to California state environmental regulators said.
The filing to California’s South Coast Air Quality Management District said the event would begin Nov. 10 through Nov. 23 as more than 500 pounds of sulfur oxides and 500,000 standard cubic feet of vent gas are routed to appropriate safety flare stacks.
The incident is related to the conclusion of scheduled maintenance that began in late-September at the refinery’s hydrotreater, a key unit for stripping sulfur and other impurities out of fuel streams, according to a source familiar with the plant’s operations.
The Carson refinery, located in the Los Angeles area, has the capacity to process 265,000 barrels of crude oil a day.
