BP is midway into Whiting expansion

Indianapolis BP America is halfway through its $3.8 billion refinery expansion in Whiting, and the expansion timetable will not be affected by the millions the company is spending on the Gulf cleanup effort. Brad Etlin, a spokesman for the refinery, which employs 1,700 full-time workers, told Chicago Public Radio that the project is 50 percent complete. Scheduled for completion in 2011, the expansion was designed to allow the refinery to nearly double the 400,000 barrels of oil processed there daily.
