The delayed coker I worked a couple of years ago had four I-R winches (2000).
We had the same drive shaft spline failures. It was a good thing we had a free fall arrestor system.
For spares we had a complete “non-warehouse” spare winch. This was a “non-warehouse”, because it was mounted on a skid and used to lift or drag loads in the plant.
