All units at Valero Energy Corp.’s Aruba refinery were shut after a fire broke out, spokesman Bill Day said Friday in an e-mailed statement. One Valero employee was treated for heat exhaustion, but no workers were injured.
The fire occurred at a vacuum tower and was extinguished in about 90 minutes. The vacuum tower handles extra processing for crude units.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and it’s uncertain how long the units will be down, Day said.
Valero’s Aruba plant last had a problem on Jan. 8, when its power supply was cut off. Before that, the plant was down for 19 days after an Oct. 5 power failure.
