DOW JONES NEWSWIRES
NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Motiva Enterprises LLC said Monday that a distillation unit at its Norco, Louisiana, oil refinery was shut Friday following a fire, but the plant has been able to continue operations.
The fire, which was caused by a leak in the distillate unit, broke out at approximately 11:30 p.m. CST Friday and was contained and extinguished by members of the on-site Emergency Response Team. There were no off-site impacts as a result of the fire; however, one employee suffered a minor injury while responding, Shell spokesman Ted Rolfvondenbaumen said.
The process of cleaning up the unit is underway and, once completed, damage assessment will begin, he added.
The Norco refinery is able to process up to 236,400 barrels of crude oil a day.
Motiva is a 50/50 joint venture of subsidiaries of Royal Dutch Shell PLC ( RDSA, RDSA.LN) and Saudi Aramco.
