Here is update on Petrobras expansion of Pasadena coking refinery and I am sure this is setting stage for Petrobras doing their heavy crude expansion as stated in news item (and will likely use some of their new offshore crude production) & should need a coker expansion – but no news on one yet. The old calciner and the papermill have been slated for demolition for several years now according to Jacobs folks.
If Petrobras does purchase Aruba they have stated they would try to sinc operations with Pasadena refinery – perhaps could be Pasadena FCC taking gasoil (ie Aruba has no FCC) or Aruba doing some resid processing (Pasadena anode coker won’t handle lot heavy crude resid incremental charge)? But nothing has been heard from Petrobras board since May 2008 when they were to make a decision on Aruba, and given today’s refinery margins, economy and all capital projects Petrobras has in progress the outlook isn’t good for Valero to be able unload Aruba to Petrobras at this time.
