Total shuts 9 units at Port Arthur refinery
Total SA, Europe’s largest oil refiner, said it shut nine units, including a distillate hydrotreater, at its Port Arthur refinery in Texas and will restart them after 72 hours.
The shutdowns began Wednesday at 6 p.m. local time and are scheduled to end at 6 p.m. Saturday, according to a filing with state regulators. The affected units were 804, 805, 810, 819, 822, 823, 824, 825 and 836.
The reasons for the shutdowns and names of the units weren’t stated in the filing. The closure resulted in the release of pollutants including carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide.
The plant can process about 240,000 barrels of crude oil a day, according to U.S. Energy Department data.
Valero plans repairs at Delaware refinery
San Antonio-based Valero Energy Corp., said it plans a maintenance period, or turnaround, at its Delaware City, Del., refinery in the fourth quarter that will include the 180,000-barrel-a-day crude unit.
Whether other units are included is to be determined, Valero spokesman Bill Day said Thursday.
The company plans to release a maintenance schedule for its North American refineries during the next two quarters on July 29, when it issues its quarterly earnings statement, Day said.
The Delaware plant can process 190,200 barrels of oil a day, according to government and company data.
