Here is update on Israel Alon USA Energy’s Bakersfield Coking Refinery. It looks like refinery is in economic / financial problems ……again.
Bakersfield coking Refiner troubled background – State/EPA harassment:
Shell sought close this 63 MBD Refinery/22 MBD Coker in Oct 2004 due all environmental & local/state regulations & harassment. But state/public objections due area fuel shortages it would cause ….. forced sale to Flying J (thru sub Big West) in 2005 (refinery at time was 73 yr old) for $130 MM.
Big West expansion/ HF unit addition was halted Apr 2007 & EPA public meeting Dec 2007 ordered plant clean up.
Israel’s – Alon USA Energy acquired Bakersfield Refinery after Fly J bankruptcy Dec 2008/plant closure resulted asset spin-off – for $30 MM by June 2010. Alon planned to tie Bakersfield into its restarted Paramount Refinery (but its coker had been dismantled & moved Sinclair WY Refinery)…but Refinery losses halted project.
BTW – this is yet Another coker (charge & tons) left off the OGJ WW Refinery Survey Dec 2011-Capacities Jan 2012 (was on previous survey Dec 2010-for Capacities Jan 2011).
