Feb. 22 (Bloomberg) — A high-pressure oil line sprayed
workers at Citgo Petroleum Corp.’s Corpus Christi, Texas,
refinery today, injuring four, the local fire department said.
The spill occurred around 10:30 a.m. local time, said
Battalion Chief Wayne Prall of the Corpus Christi Fire
Four workers were treated and taken to the hospital, he
said. One worker is in critical condition and three are in
stable condition, he said.
Caller Times reported on its Caller.com Web site that five
people were injured, one critically.
The refinery’s emergency response team is on the scene,
Prall said. Citgo spokesman Fernando Garay didn’t immediately
return a call seeking comment.
Citgo is wholly owned by Venezuela’s state-oil company,
Petroleos de Venezuela SA. The refinery is capable of processing
156,000 barrels of oil a day and is about 235 miles (378
